More Dewalt FLEXVOLT 60V Tools – New Track Saw – Blower – Chainsaw – Rotary Hammer – String Trimmer

More tools have been spotted for the new Dewalt Flexvolt 60V cordless power tool system. Recently I wrote about the new Flexvolt 60V 16″ chainsaw DCCS670X1 so that should be old news for you regular viewers and I covered the 9.0 Flexvolt battery DCB609 also in a previous article  (9ah in 20V mode or 3ah in 60V mode). A flyer has been spotted that shows the newer Flexvolt 9ah battery and 60V 16″ chainsaw along with a new 60V Flexvolt track saw DCS520T1 , 60V Flexvolt blower DCBL770X1 , 60V Flexvolt 1-9/16″ rotary hammer DCH481X2 , and a 60V Flexvolt 15″ string trimmer DCST970X1 .

Other than the fact that these Dewalt Flexvolt 60V power tools exist and will eventually come out, not much else is known about them besides the basic specs listed in their title. What we know is that they all appear to be brushless power tools and with the exception of the Track saw that comes with a 6.0 Flexvolt battery, the others will come with the newer higher capacity 9ah battery.

3 of these cordless power tools are outdoor power equipment which makes me wonder why they went 60V when there was already a 40V cordless outdoor power tool line from Dewalt. My guess is so that users of the Dewalt Flexvolt system could have their own set of  outdoor power equipment specifically designed for this line. The chainsaw has a 16″ bar and chain, the blower doesn’t have any listed stats yet so we’ll have to wait for those. The string trimmer has a 15″ cutting swatch which is on par with similar voltage ranges. The new chainsaw, string trimmer, and blower seem to be based on the design of the 40V models or atleast very similar in design.

We also have a very special cordless power tool included in this flyer which is the track saw. One reason is that track saws aren’t very popular here in the USA but in my opinion they are very underestimated here in north america. I usually hear about these in Europe, not that they’re not available here in the US as they are readily available here, but just not as widespread in use as they are in Europe. Also, track saws are commonly known as corded power tools so it’s nice to see them transition into the cordless arena.

The next gem out of the Dewalt 60V Flexvolt line is the 1-9/16″ rotary hammer. It doesn’t say what type of SDS connection it uses whether SDS+ or SDS Max but looking at it’s large size and large capacity, I’d say it’s an SDS Max rotary hammer. If true, this will be the second cordless SDS Max rotary hammer to hit the market after the Milwaukee M18 Fuel 1-9/16″ SDS Max rotary hammer and also makes the Dewalt, the first ever 60V SDS Max rotary hammer.

If I had to guess, I’d say that the entire Dewalt Flexvolt 60V line was created as Dewalt’s answer to Milwaukee’s M18 high demand 9.0 battery and SDS Max rotary hammer with a little bit of Makita X2 technology into the mix. It was of no surprise that the Dewalt Flexvolt battery shares a similar design and battery cell count as the M18 High Demand battery and now we have what seems to be a Dewalt SDS Max cordless rotary hammer. Although Dewalt did have a pretty slick trick up it’s sleeve with their Flexvolt batteries being able to change voltage between 20V and 60V to suite the different needs of various cordless power tools (similar in some ways as to how Makita has X2 36V power tools powered by 18V batteries{X2 power tools use two 18V batteries to produce 36V}). Whatever the fact of the matter is, I like the fierce competition we see between power tool brands as competition brings progress and new ideas.
