Metabo 18V Brushless 3 Mode Drill GB18LTXBLIQ w/ 1,300 in-lbs Torque and Tapping Mode

16652The high torque cordless drill race is clearly not over as we can see that Metabo has pushed current 18V torque limits for a cordless drill with their latest Metabo 18V Brushless 3 Mode Drill GB18LTXBLIQ that pumps out a fierce 1,300 in-lbs of torque. This puts it well over the best high torque offerings from Makita, Milwaukee, and Hitachi.

The new Metabo 18V Brushless 3 Mode Drill GB18LTXBLIQ shares many similarities to their previous high torque 18V drill, the BS18LTXBL QUICK, as it has a similar body and styling, a high torque brushless motor, a removable chuck with built in bit holder that made it a compact screwdriver, and an impulse mode. The new has all of those features plus more power, way more power. But it also has an all new feature which is a unique electronically controlled tapping mode automatically changes the rotation of the chuck, providing a fast, precise and cleanly threaded hole. The chuck also has a unique four sided receptacle in the chuck with a square taper for tapping bits.

The way the tapping mode works is it makes the drill spin in reverse when no pressure is placed on the bit, but as soon as you place pressure on the bit, it automatically taps as you move forward. This allows you to tap holes as normal with forward pressure, and makes it very easy to back out by releasing forward pressure. This makes the forward and backward movement extremely fast to tap holes without the need to fuss with having to stop in the middle, press the reverse, and back out. The tapping mode does both steps quickly in one pass.

The new Metabo 18V Brushless 3 Mode Drill GB18LTXBLIQ was released in November and is out now for purchase. Currently sold as a baretool for $299.
