Harbor Freight has recently added 2 new oil free compressors to their new Fortress Brand, with a 5 gallon 1.6hp 225 PSI unit and a 27 gallon 1.6hp 200 PSI unit. Just like the other Fortress air compressors, these are geared towards the professional and compare well with similar models from top competitors.
My thoughts: While the Fortress brand is still very new, they’ve made a very good impression with their smaller super quiet compressors. Just like Harbor Freight’s other new brands they’re quickly building a good number of tools and these new Fortress Compressors have some excellent specs and features to keep up with the trend that’s been set by Harbor Freight’s other new brands. On the 5 gallon unit one standout feature that I believe is a first for a Harbor Freight product is a 1.7hp AC brushless 4 pole motor, which brings extra energy efficiency and longer life to most applications. AC brushless motors are found in other power tools from DeWalt and Hitachi/Metabo HPT/Hikoki, but it’s amazing to see it in something from Harbor Freight. Other features on the 5 gallon model include an oil free pump for less maintenance, a low 78 DB sound rating, pressure up to 225 PSI, and an aluminum tank for rust free operation and easy transport thanks to its lightweight. At the time of writing the the 27 gallon appears to have a glitch on the Harbor Freight website as the specs listed in the description are the same as those for the 5 gallon model. Luckily scrolling down through their product page it has more specs so here they are. For the 27 gallon model it features a top pressure of 200 PSI, a 1.7hp motor, a built in cord wrap, as well as a roll cage around the top to protect the motor and controls. Overall these look like excellent compressors to add to the Fortress brand.
