Ryobi has announced a new Gen II version of their 18V HP brushless 4-1/2″ angle grinder for 2024. This model is promising corded-like performance. Let’s check it out below.

Ryobi GEN II 18V HP Brushless 4-1/2″ Angle Grinder – Features
Ever since the first cordless angle grinders with brushless motors came on the scene, they’ve had performance similar to corded models. So to say this new grinder has corded-like performance doesn’t really say much. It would be like saying a vehicle comes with 4 tires included – no duh brah. However what does bring attention to Ryobi’s latest cordless angle grinder is that it promises 11 amps of corded-like performance. Now that’s news! Especially for a Ryobi cordless grinder.
No doubt this is thanks to their powerful brushless motor. It has the HP brushless designation which is given to their latest high performance tools.
Ryobi calls this both a grinder and cut off tool. Back before brushless grinders came about, brushed motor grinders were basically only good for cutting. That’s why they were called cut off tools, but as soon as brushless motors were introduced, they now had the power to grind. And with such high power, it will take quite a bit to make this model stall.
When paired with their 12ah battery, you can expect to get up to 210 cuts per charge though Ryobi doesn’t mention what type of cut into what type of material. Where’s the deets?!
As far as features are concerned, this model uses a paddle switch for operation. This helps with safety so the grinder shuts off if dropped. The included side handle has three placement options, left, right, and top for multiple grip options.
The grinder wheel/nut is not tool-less to change out wheels, however Ryobi integrated storage for the spanner wrench into the handle for less chances of loss and to keep it on hand when you need it.
What is tool-free to change is the wheel guard which is a cutting style guard. A grinding guard isn’t included which is a bummer. A grinding wheel and cutting wheel are included with the grinder.
Ryobi also mentions that this grinder has upgraded ergonomics that enable easier, more consistent flush cuts.

It will be available in July 2024 and comes in a baretool option PBLAG02B for $129 and a kit option PBLAG02K1 with 4ah battery and charger for $199.
