Metabo POWERMAXX CC 12 BL 600348840 12V Brushless Angle Grinder

Metabo has announced a new cordless tool for their 12V lineup with a new Metabo POWERMAXX CC 12 BL 600348840 12V Brushless Angle Grinder.

The new Metabo POWERMAXX CC 12 BL 600348840 12V Brushless Angle Grinder looks to be an impressive feat as 12 volt grinders weren’t possible years ago but it seems they’ve been able to make them possible with today’s latest brushless motor tech. Don’t expect the same capacity you’d find on an 18v grinder such as 4 inch wheel capacity or larger as this 12 volt tool uses 3 inch wheels.

It’s design isn’t exactly like what you’d find on a regular grinder, although it does have the right angle wheel form factor, it uses a direct drive motor assembly instead of traditional right angle gearing. In fact they went Milwaukee’s approach and made it similar to their M12 cut off tool, and even the blade orientation on the Metabo is perfect for use as a cut off tool.

While I expect the Metabo 12V angle grinder to be very powerful for it’s 12 volt class, I wouldn’t expect it to be suitable for actual grinding but instead great as a cut off tool. Maybe they should have named it the Metabo 12V cut off tool instead as the wheel orientation is designed specifically as a cut off tool as mentioned in the previous paragraph. Although I will mention that their marketing video shows it in action doing some very light grinding so it appears grinding is possible, although don’t expect too much.

As far as other features are concerned, it has a 20,000 no load speed, a slide power switch, a wheel guard with tool free angle positioning, overload protection and restart protection which prevents unintentional start-up after battery pack change. I also see an included hex key, probably to change wheels and it stores below the handle.

A big thanks to Cody Robertson for spotting!
