Brands like Wera and Disston have had diamond grit screwdriver bits but we haven’t really seen any of the popular mainstream tool brands with diamond grit bits (at least I haven’t) but that changes until now as Ryobi has announced that they are coming out with their own diamond grit impact rated screwdriver bits! Expect them to be available in May 2022.

Like other diamond grit drilling accessories, these screwdriving bits also offer diamond grit that is fused onto the tips of the bits for three main benefits. Benefits 1 & 2 are better fitment and grip. This means that a phillips bit will fit better in a phillips screw which means less chance of stripping both the screws and the bits. The micro texture of diamond grit also helps add grip which also helps lessen the chance of stripping. In fact the fitment and grip is so good that Ryobi even does the same tests that Makita does with their bits, which is to place something like an impact driver onto a screw and the fitment is so good that the impact driver does not fall out as it stays in place. To further drive home the point, Ryobi even rotated their lumber downwards and you would expect the impact driver to fall out yet it doesn’t and stays in place. Which further proves the grip-ability of the diamond grit. Benefit #3 is that Ryobi says these diamond bits will last 20X longer than traditional bits. We all know that diamond is one of the hardest materials if not the hardest known to man so it makes sense that adding diamond grit to bits will extend their life. They are also impact rated as you can see in the image above thanks to the thin flex torsion zone shown by the Ryobi green color which helps soak up the high torque produced by impact drivers rather than the tip itself.
These will be available in May 2022 and will come in 1″, 2″, and 3-1/2″ phillips head bit sizes and in 3, 5, 12, and 22 piece sets as shown below.
