With other brands offering high torque monsters with 1,400 ft-lbs of nut busting torque, Dewalt didn’t want to stay behind. Sure their previous DCF899 model was no slouch with a very strong 1200 ft-lbs of nut busting torque, their latest DCF900 model pushes ahead also with 1400 ft-lbs of nut busting torque. This keeps Dewalt competitive with other brands and Dewalt’s model also has 1030 ft-lbs of max fastening torque which is similar to the top specs. It doesn’t match some that are up there like Milwaukee’s M18 Fuel 1/2″ high torque model putting out slightly more at 1,100 ft-lbs of max fastening torque. To be honest, that’s only a little bit more so the Dewalt is roughly in the same ballpark which is still pretty good and that is a great improvement over their previous DCF899 high torque impact wrench which had 700 ft-lbs of max fastening torque.
Dewalt’s latest model also has quite a bit of bells and whistles. First of which is the brushless motor that helps it achieve strong performance. It also comes with 4 modes of operation which include 3 speeds and a 4th mode called Precision wrench control which is designed to help prevent overtightening and fastener run off. Like all cordless power tools nowadays, this model also comes with an LED light at the base of the tool but uses a larger LED chip than most. They don’t explain how bright it can get in lumens but it does have brightness control settings which is something most other brands don’t have. It also has a feature called “Batteryguard” which is what they call the battery to tool connection that offers shock absorbing that’s supposed to help prevent additional wear and tear on the battery.
It is available now and can be had for as little as $300 as a baretool and as a kit for as little as $369 and can go as high as $629 depending on kit configuration. Dewalt also offers an optional protective boot cover for this model.
