Recently both Bosch and Fein co-developed a new accessory tool mount to be used on oscillating multitools which has been called the Starlock mount. This new mount has a 12 pointed star shape that offers a 3D grip between the tool and the accessory and is shaped similar to a bottle cap. The new Starlock mounting system is said to offer increased torque transfer to the accessory along with lightning quick blade changes that can be as quick as 3 seconds to snap a new blade on or off, all without the need to touch the blade with your hands. So no risk of being burned by hot blades after use. Accessories for the new Starlock mount from both Bosch and Fein have been available for some time now and Fein was the first of the bunch to introduce several oscillating multitool that can take full advantage of the new Starlock mount. Recently Bosch announced that they too will release a couple of oscillating multitools outfitted with the Starlock mount.
Bosch will offer a couple of corded oscillating multitools featuring both featuring the new Starlock mount with the first model being the GOP40-30 Oscillating Multi-Tool. This is considered their heavy-duty oscillating multitool positioned above the current MX30E multitool. This particular model utilizes the StarlockPLUS mount and will feature 4.0 amp power for Heavy-Duty Applications. It offers a slide on/off switch with variable speed dial along with reinforced metal gearing for optimal force transmission and will weight in at 3.3 lbs. Unlike previous Bosch oscillating multitools, this new model will feature a handy dandy LED light for illuminating dark areas.

The second model is the Bosch GOP55-36 Oscillating Multi-Tool. This particular model is positioned as their high end multitool above all other Bosch multitools including the MX30E and the above mentioned GOP40-30 model. Being designed with the best of the best Starlock Max mount and a beefed up 5.5 amp motor, the GOP55-36 StarlockMAX Oscillating Multi-Tool is designed for Extreme-Duty Industrial Applications much like the Fein SuperCut is positioned as the high-end industrial model within the Fein family of multitools. Although both new Starlock mount Bosch multitools look similar to the Bosch MX30E multitool, this new GOP55-36 resembles the MX30E the most and lacks the new LED light found on the GOP40-30 model.

- amperage: 5.5
- 8,000-22,000 OPM
- Oscillating angle: 3.6°

One thing I appreciate with both of these new models is that Bosch didn’t just grab their current corded oscillating tool models and slap the new Starlock mount system on them. They made completely new models with added power along with the new mount and in the case of the GOP40-30, has an added feature in the form of an LED light which is where the current market trend is heading.
With the recent announcement of these new Bosch Starlock mount multitools we can expect them to be available soon. In fact, the Bosch GOP40-30 is already available for sale on the Amazon website with links posted above. I will assume that the Bosch GOP55-36 model will be available very soon.
UPDATE: Bosch says the GOP55-36 is available now with a retail price of US: $259-$399 and Canada: $349-$549
