AEG 18V 184MM (7-1/4″) Brushless Deep Cut Circular Saw BKS18BR-0

A new cordless circular saw has appeared on the AEG Australia website and it’s the AEG 18V 184MM Brushless Deep Cut Circular Saw BKS18BR-0 .

The new AEG 18V brushless circular saw uses a 184mm blade which translates to a 7-1/4″ blade and it’s considered a deep cut circular saw because it has a 68mm depth of cut at 90 degrees which translates to 2.677 inches which is a little larger than 2-5/8″ but slightly less than 2-11/16. This means you’ll be able to cut 5 pieces of 1/2″ plywood stacked and still have a little over 1/8″ room to max out it’s capacity. This depth of cut capacity is the highest I’ve seen on any circular saw with a 7-1/4″ blade corded or cordless. Most 7-1/4″ circular saws have a depth of cut capacity of about 2-3/8 to 2-1/2 so AEG’s latest cordless circular saw does impress. The only other highest cut capacity I’ve seen on a cordless 7-1/4″ circular saws are on two Makita X2 models (XSH01Z & XSH06PT) which top out at a rated 2-5/8″ which is a hair less than AEG’s latest.

The AEG 18V 184MM (7-1/4″) Brushless Deep Cut Circular Saw BKS18BR-0 has some pretty good features such as a brushless motor and a rafter hook and some mid range features such as an aluminum shoe and undisclosed metal upper blade guard and plastic lower blade guard. You’ll also find an LED cut light and vac port as well.

Thanks to Josh the Tool Dude for reminding us that this new AEG BKS18BR-0 deep cut circular saw is actually the AEG variant of the Ridgid R8654 18v Octane Brushless circular saw that was introduced earlier this year. The AEG variant has identical spec’s as the Ridgid R8654 with the main difference being that the Ridgid has a side dust chute with included vac port while the AEG comes equipped only with a vac port and a slightly different color scheme.

A big thanks to John Ryan for spotting the new AEG 18V circular saw!

I don’t know, I just can get very excited about another 1/8″ or whatever depth of cut on a circular saw. Who uses these things to cut material that depth? Give me more power!

It looks like Ridgid actually beat AEG to this tool with their Octane model which came out several months ago and has near identical specs. The pictures of the AEG and Ridgid do appear to show the same rafter hook design and battery placement, as well as vacuum ports. If anyone would like read about the Ridgid Octane version, check out this article.

    5500 rpm vs 5600 rpm
    hmm.

Is it another one of those 60v max or 54v true voltage scenario’s? I wonder. Should be same motor. Or is it a different gear reduction?
