News of an AEG 18V brushless 5 inch angle grinder is nothing new and is news that’s been out for over 2 years but I thought you guys might like to know whats out there and what’s possible in the tool world. With AEG being the overseas representation of Ridgid power tools this could very well be a possibility that we might have our own Ridgid GenX5 18V 5″ brushless angle grinder BUT well have to wait and see. There’s a good chance we might see one make it’s way here as a Ridgid model since many AEG 18V tools have appeared here in the USA as Ridgid GenX5 power tools.
What we know about the AEG 18V brushless angle grinder is that it’s a brushless grinder with power similar to AC (corded) models, it has a capacity to use up to 5″ discs, it has the same antivibration handle you find on the Milwaukee M18 Fuel grinders (except with Ridgid/AEG orange), it features a fixtec lock nut just like the newest Milwaukee M18 Fuel Braking Grinder for fast tool free wheel changes, and it also features grinding disc guard that can be positioned to different angles without the need of tools (just like the Milwaukee M18 Fuel Grinders). In fact, the AEG 18V brushless grinder shares many similarities, specs and features of the Milwaukee M18 Fuel grinders which isn’t really a surprise since TTI makes the cordless power tools for Milwaukee and Ridgid / AEG. Of course the AEG version does have a few notable differences such as a different body style and although it does have intake vents near the battery holder, it doesn’t have removable vent filters like the ones you find on the Milwaukee M18 Fuel grinders. Check out the video below for a quick look at the AEG brushless grinder.
Also interesting to note is the appearance of a new higher capacity AEG 18V battery with 6.0 amp hours! It feels like the Ridgid 18V 5.0 batteries barely came out and now it’s amazing to hear of a new 6.0 battery, even if it’s not available here in the USA yet as a Ridgid battery. Of course the bigger capacity the battery, the more runtime we can expect out of them. In theory, we can expect up to 33% more runtime than a Ridgid 4.0 amp hour 18V battery.
