It is priced at $219.99 (at time of writing) which puts it higher than HF’s own Chicago Electric brand and even slightly higher than their Admiral brand which has a 12 inch sliding model priced at $199.99 at the time of writing which used to be their top miter saw brand before they came out with their flagship Hercules miter saw.
It certainly looks like a considerable upgrade over their Chicago Electric models with a beefier base and “tall” fences. We also see upgraded features like a cam lock to lock miter angles instead of twist knob and LED light which is my preferred method for marking a cut line as it casts a shadow line where the blade will cut. These are typically much better than laser sight lines. I also see that it mentions as having an electric brake which is a nice feature to slow down the brake in a few seconds after releasing the trigger so you don’t have to wait for the blade to slow down on its own.
We can also see that they positioned the motor at about a 45 degree angle to the blade which is good for two reasons. First because it provides more clearance for vertical cutting for cutting taller yet thin boards. It’s rated to cut up to 5-1/2″baseboards. It also helps avoid the use of drive belts that may eventually wear out.
Horizontal capacity is able to cut 12-1/2″ lumber up to 3-1/2″ thick so basically 4x lumber. No need to do two passes to cut 4x lumber which is nice. Miter angles are 52 degrees to the left and 60 degrees to the right which also helps for storing and keeping a smaller footprint. As the title suggests, it’s a dual bevel miter saw meaning it can bevel to the right and left so no need to flip boards as you would with a single bevel miter saw. It also includes extending side extensions. These add extra support so boards don’t sag however while it is nice that some saws come with these, you’ll still need a proper miter saw stand to support long boards. The motor is said to be 15 amp motor with 4500 no load RPM. Overall it’s shaping up to be a nicely featured miter saw for the price.
A big thanks to Andrew Sanjanwala for spotting!
