Harbor Freight seems to be applying the good, better, best system to their new releases, meaning they’re keeping some of their older brands around for the budget minded DIYers, a mid grade line for the prosumers and a professional line that matches the features and quality of major competitors with a good price. Harbor Freight’s new Spectrum brand already has released 2 higher end HVLP Air Paint Spray guns but these new Black Widow units are a good bit pricier and have some nice features and specs.
My thoughts: Harbor Freight’s central pneumatic HVLP guns have a good reputation for being disposable spray guns that are good for one use and then throw then out because they’re so cheap and hard to clean. While they may be good for DIY projects, Harbor Freight has clearly been challenging the major pro brands with their recent brands. These new Black Widow spray guns feature a 20 oz gravity fed paint container, self adjusting seals for less maintenance, and easy access and coated internals for easy cleaning. Other features include swivel fitting for less restriction when moving to paint at odd angles, precision adjustment control knobs for excellent adjustment of spray angle, and a forged body with high flow air passages for maximum application efficiency. The 2 models appear very similar but one of them is HTE rated, which is something I’m not familiar with but it stands for High Transfer Efficiency, which is a rating given to spray guns that meet or exceed a 65% spray transfer efficiency. Overall these spray guns look really nice and I’m sure like most of Harbor Freight’s recent releases, they’ll deliver excellent performance.
