Gen 2 Ridgid 18V Subcompact Brushless 4 Mode 3/8 & 1/2″ Impact Wrench

Just announced is a new Ridgid 18V Subcompact Brushless 4 Mode Impact Wrench in two models. A 3/8″ drive and a 1/2″ drive. Let’s check them out.

Ridgid 18V Subcompact Brushless 4 Mode 3/8″ & 1/2″ Impact Wrench – Gen 2

Back in 2020, Ridgid introduced their sub compact brushless 18 volt power tools. Part of the starting lineup was a puny 3/8″ impact wrench. Later that year they came out with a 1/2″ model that appeared to be based on the 3/8″ impact wrench. Both models were very compact impact wrenches and had a nice set of features. Such as a brushless motor that put out 225 ft-lbs torque and 4 modes. They seemed like a premium product except they were missing one key feature. Triple LED’s on the head of the tool.

Fast forward to today and it appears that Ridgid has rectified the situation. They’ve redeemed themselves with these new Gen 2 models now donning proper triple LED light’s up front.

These new Gen 2 subcompact impact wrenches keep up with the subcompact theme by providing a still tiny power tool. It doesn’t appear as ridiculously tiny as the originals but they still look pretty compact to me. The 3/8″ model is shown above and the 1/2″ is shown below.

While they do gain a slight size increase over the originals, their torque goes up too. Now with up to 250 ft-lbs of torque for both models.

Though bigger, they are still tiny which should help them maneuver into tight quarters.

Just like the originals, these also feature 4 modes. It is 3 speeds plus an auto tightening mode. This mode stops automatically to prevent the over tightening of bolts. In reverse it applies full torque and stops when the fastener is loosened. The bottom rear of the tool is where you find the button to switch between modes.

It has a variable speed trigger and are equipped with a belt clip.

Both will be available as a baretool for $149 and as a kit for $189 at launch. The kit includes a 2.0ah battery and charger. They will launch in February 2023.
