Here’s a new multitool from Gerber that I stumbled across, the Gerber Center Drive MultiTool. This made in the USA pocket multitool has a few neat features up it’s sleeve.
It offers a bit holder that when extended in place offers an offset shaft that places the bit in the center giving it a center axis making it better suited for screwdriving, instead of lopsided screwdriving normally found on other multitools. The bit holder accepts full size 1/4″ bits which is a nice touch as you can use and interchange bits that you already own.
It also has a full size outboard knife that Gerber claims is 30% longer than the competition. This will definitely help out in any “mine is bigger” arguments. There’s also a reverse thumb support.
Like many multitools it also features built in pliers, but the ones on the Gerber Center Drive MultiTool are spring loaded. This means that with a flick of a switch they pop into place, so no need to fold the multitool into place to turn it into a set of pliers.
Practically everything on the Gerber Center Drive MultiTool is accessible with an easy flick of your thumb.
Of course it does have other stuff built in such as an awl, serrated blade, pry bar w/ nail puller & bottle opener, and file. It comes with two magnetic bits, a phillips bit and flat head bit.
Retail price is $119 while Amazon is currently taking orders for $99 as of time of writing.
