Harbor Freight EarthQuake XT 20V Max Cordless Brushless 4-1/2″ Angle Grinder Spotted

It’s been over a year since Harbor Freight released their 20v EarthQuake impact wrenches, and even with the release of 2 new anvil variations, there was no word on any other new tools coming to the 20v EarthQuake battery platform. Well not only is there a new grinder coming to the line with the EarthQuake XT 20V Max Cordless Brushless 4-1/2″ Angle Grinder, it’s Harbor Freight’s first non OPE cordless tool to feature a brushless motor. Brushless motors are better for tools like grinders because they are more battery efficient, run cooler and typically put out more power. In addition to those qualities they also typically last long than their brushed counterparts. The only downside is they cost more however as we’ve seen with Ryobi, brushless technology can still be affordable.

My thoughts: It’s certainly exciting to see a new tool finally coming to the EarthQuake line, especially considering the great reviews on the impact wrenches. Features include a brushless motor, lock on slide switch, 3 position accessory side handle and 8,500 RPMs. 8,500 RPM isn’t at the top of the market but it is consistent with several brand’s brushless offerings. One downside to this grinder is it’s not cheap coming in at $149.99 bare tool at the time of writing which is similar to others on the market but on the higher side for Harbor Freight. One thing to consider though is you can expect some better prices when using a coupon which I suspect will take off $10 or $20. Overall it looks to be a solid and very welcome addition to the EarthQuake XT 20v line
