Hercules 12 Gallon Dust Extractor – Features
As far as I know, this is Harbor Freights first dust extractor. Dust extractors are basically what most people call “shop vacs” (wet dry vacuums) but more purpose built for optimal dust management. Many of them offer features like finer dust filtration with HEPA filters, self cleaning filters for less clogs, and can even be quieter.
This dust extractor has a HEPA certified OSHA-compliant filter – two of them which are used together at the same time. It also offers automatic filter cleaning which pulses the filters during operating to clear them for extended use with less clogging so you can work longer.
The front panel is the business end with several control dials up top with the operating dial on the top left and the variable speed dial on the top right. Like many dust extractors this model has an AC port so you can plug in your saw or rotary hammer so you can operate the vac when you run the plugged in tool. When using this feature the dust extractor turns on when you turn on the other tool and turns off you turn off the other tool. All automatically and it even runs the vac for 10 seconds to clear any debris still working its way in the hose after you power off the other tool. The bottom right panel is where you’ll find the automatic filter cleaning button.
Having a dust extractor like this is perfect for running a saw or even things like rotary hammers as concrete dust is very harmful to your lungs. Stay safe my friends.
This dust extractor comes with everything you need to get started with a 24 foot cord and 17 foot antistatic hose for long reach and so you don’t need extensions when working inside in most rooms. It has 6.5 HP of performance. It comes with two large all terrain wheels in the back with 2 360 degree castors in front. Two extension wands, bent angled wand, large floor nozzle and 3 extra nozzles including a crevice nozzle. A bag filter is also included for easy containment and to throw away without making a mess.
In the back is where you find a telescoping handle for use and a bucket style compartment for storage.
On top is where you’ll find a handle that pulls double duty as the cord wrap.
Of course this is a fully functional dry vacuum and also a wet vacuum. Hercules mentions that you need to remove all filters and bag for wet suction. This is pretty standard fare.
