One big question for many people when the Hercules 12v tools were first released was, will they be expanding the 12v line anytime soon? As most of us know it took almost 2 year for Harbor Freight to finally get more Hercules 20v tools out after releasing an impact driver, a hammer drill, and a drill driver. While there’s no word if many more tools will be coming to the recently released Hercules 12v line in addition to the existing 3 tools, they are adding a 12v compact 3/8” drive impact wrench to the mix, which should be a great fit for light duty fastening.
My thoughts: As I’ve said in many other articles, I’m always happy to see a practical tool added to an existing platform, as it ultimately adds value to the line and gives the consumer a tool that can meet their needs better than a similar tool. While this new compact 3/8” impact wrench from Hercules doesn’t sport any standout features or specs, it does hit a good price point and as I said above, it adds another option and thus value to the Hercules 12v line. In terms of features this new impact wrench looks to share almost all the features of the 12v Hercules ¼” impact driver, with a variable speed trigger, LED light with a delay to light up the workspace for a few seconds, all metal gear construction, and 1,200 in. lbs. of torque. While 1,200 in. lbs. isn’t anything crazy, for the size of the tool it should be enough to break loose smaller nuts and bolts. With a coupon price of $64.99 (baretool), this is actually a few dollars more than a similar Makita baretool model, although it is still well below a brushed Milwaukee M12 model. I think it will be a better option if they can get the price down closer to that of the other 12v Hercules tools, which are around $40 with a coupon at the time of writing. Even with the price of $64.99, it’s still reasonably priced and should be a great option for users doing light fastener installation and removal.
