Every now and then I’ll take a look at the Hikoki Japan website for new tools and I recently spotted the new CD3607DA metal cutting 180-185mm / 7.08-7.28” circular saw powered by the Hikoki MultiVolt 36v battery system. I want to note that this was spotted on the Hikoki Japan website so I don’t know if or when it may make its way to North America as a Metabo HPT branded tool.
My thoughts: This is an interesting saw because unlike most cordless metal cutting circular saws, this one can use a full 7 ¼” blade which is more typical of multi purpose circular saws however keep in mind the included blade is 180mm which is 7.08 inches. There are a few brushed competitors with the 6 ½” Metabo MKS18LTX58 and the 5 ½” DeWalt DCS373B. Brushless competition includes the 5 ⅜” Milwaukee M18 Fuel 2782-20, and the 5 ⅞” Makita 18v XSC04Z. The thing that sets this saw apart from its competition is the larger capacity that can accept the more common 7 ¼” blade size, which allows more cut capacity and a wider blade selection however keep in mind the included blade is 180mm which is 7.08 inches.
Features on this new Hikoki saw include a soft start brushless motor, kickback protection, magnesium blade guard and chip collection container, mesh motor vent filters, LED light, and a silent mode that runs at 2,000 rpm and ramps up if a higher load is detected. Cutting depth is also quite good at 60.5mm (2.38”).
Overall it looks like this should be an excellent saw for cutting round stock, angle iron, steel studs, steel plate, sheet metal, roofing, and small pipe. I really hope this makes its way to North America as I think a lot of users would find it useful in the welding and industrial construction fields.
