Makita now has a new cordless circular saw with a capacity larger than 7-1/4″ and it’s the Makita X2 XSH10Z 9‑1/4” Brushless Circular Saw with Guide Rail Compatible Base and it is also AWS capable.
This large capacity saw sports a 9-1/4″ circular saw blade and has a massive cut capacity of 3-3/8″ which is larger than regular 10″ table saws! This is thanks to it’s brushless motor for better perfromance and runtime than brushed motors. Also thanks to Makita making it a 36V power tool by using a pair of 18V batteries together for better performance. I like that Makita with with a traditional sidewinder style body on this circular saw instead of making it a fake worm drive style.
You can also classify this new large capacity circular saw as a track saw as it’s base is guide rail compatible, you’ll just have to buy the track rails separately. This saw is also AWS capable for their auto-wireless-start system when used with the optional wireless transmitter.
Other features magnesium shoe and blade guards and include a built in vac port on upper blade guard. A dust blower to clear the cut line. Dual fuel gauge and LED light for low light use. You can make bevel cuts up to 60 degrees. Runtime is said to be up to 110 cuts into 3×12 lumber!
Available as a baretool with a price of $585.75 per time of writing.

Everything about this saw looks cool… except the 9″ blade. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one in person. I remember seeing another 9″ saw somewhere (old worm drive?), but that’s quite an oddball size. What gives?
True that it’s not a common blade size but there are some blades available in the 9-1/4″ size from Makita, Dewalt and Bosch https://amzn.to/3aS8NNm
I know Skilsaw has their 10-1/4″ sasquatch model that’s a worm drive like you mentioned but it’s still good to see Makita making something close to that and it’s cordless. It’s cut capacity is almost that of the sasquatch and that’s amazing considering the Makita is battery powered.
Ironically, I have the Skilsaw 10.25″ wormdrive. I read about the difference between the 10″ and 10.25″ blades before I bought it. I figured I could treat the blade real nice and if I had to I could always break down and put a 10″ blade on it. I’ve never noticed a 9″ blade in a store. But now in going to look!
