Milwaukee announced a completely new cordless SDS Plus rotary hammer with the Milwaukee M18 Fuel 1-3/4″ SDS Max Rotary Hammer 2718-21HD . Rather than wait until after the initial launch of this new tool, Milwaukee did us all a favor and added One Key functionality with the first iteration of this model so that users can also easily track, manage, and secure the rotary hammer through the ONE-KEY app on their mobile device.

This is a step up model to the previous Milwaukee M18 Fuel SDS Max 1-9/16″ cordless rotary hammer as it’s rated higher at 1-3/4 inch capacity for drilling holes with standard bits and has 8.1 ft/lbs of impact force/energy. That’s 3.1 more impact force than the cordless 1-9/16″ model which means this new model hits much harder and offers better chipping performance along with better performance with larger holes. Milwaukee is saying that this new cordless rotary hammer generates the power of a 15amp corded hammer of the same size, so expect corded performance in a cordless tool.
The new tool is engineered with a proprietary AUTOSTOP electromagnetic clutch for the safest drilling and demolition experience. This clutch kicks in during lock up to prevent over rotation, minimizing potential rotation to only 45 degrees versus the typical 360 degrees of rotation users often experience with other hammers in this class.
Through ONE-KEY users can track, manage, and secure the rotary hammer. The ONE-KEY Integrated Tool Tracking functionality allows users to identify where and when their rotary hammer was last seen on the jobsite. Records and locations will update when any device with the ONE-KEY app comes within 100ft of the hammer, allowing the user to quickly pinpoint missing tools. Integrated Tool Security provides an extra layer of protection to prevent theft and tampering. With Simplified Tool and Equipment Management, users also have a central place to take inventory of their rotary hammer and all other tools and equipment and keep detailed records of all inventory to easily build a budget and manage spend.
When the cordless 1-9/16″ model was announced, Milwaukee gave us runtime figures in minutes. This time around they don’t give us this figure in minutes but Milwaukee says that this new rotary hammer is capable of chipping a 1/2 ton of material per charge when used with the new High Output 12.0 ah batteries.
We can expect this new Milwaukee M18 Fuel 1-3/4″ SDS Max Rotary Hammer 2718-21HD to be available in January 2019 which isn’t that far away and will be priced at $799 as a Bare tool 2718-20; $899 for a one 12.0 battery kit (2718-21HD); and $999 for a two 12.0 a battery kit (2718-22HD).
The news doesn’t end there as Milwaukee also announced a new corded version of this rotary hammer, the Milwaukee 1-3/4″ SDS Max Rotary Hammer 5546-21 and it’s going to be available March 2019. The full specs and features isn’t available yet on the corded model but I’ll update you guys as soon as it’s available.
