Just like the original, it sports a brushless motor and quick instant nail fires with no delay or ramp up time. As soon as you press the trigger, it fires each nail on the spot. The second gen model gets a new exterior refresh and uses new tech on the inside. It now uses sealed compressed nitrogen and spring mechanism to deliver performance similar to pneumatic nailers but without the need for compressor and hose or the need of consumable gas cartridges. Just like the original, all you need to power this thing is any M18 battery pack. Thanks to the new sealed compressed nitrogen, they claim an unmatched fire rate similar to pneumatic nailers.

While the length gets slightly bigger compared to the original, now at 11.9 inches in length, the weight goes down substantially now at 5.35 lbs. Milwaukee doesn’t mention if this weight is with or without battery but if that’s with the battery then it would be almost two pounds lighter than the previous model.

Other improvements included reduced recoil and hole size. I remember when I reviewed the original, it left large holes that looked like they were done by firing twice with two marks next to each other. It appears Milwaukee has improved this. The front of the tool has been streamlined to improve line-of-sight to the work surface and access to tight spaces. Runtime also gets an improvement with up to 1500 nails with a compact 2.0 ah battery, up from 1200 with the same battery. You still get the same sequential and bump fire modes along with dryfire lockout, sequential/bump fire modes and reversible belt clip.

The new Milwaukee M18 Fuel 18 Gauge Brad Nailer 2746-21CT will be available August 2019 for $279 as a bare tool and $399 as a kit.
