DeWalt is coming out soon with a new carbon fiber level. This new model will come in a 48″ length and comes as a box beam. Until now I’ve never heard of carbon fiber as the material for levels but here in the tool worlds things are always changing. When I think of carbon fiber, I think of sports cars and high end bikes (bicycles). Carbon fiber is used to keep weight down while retaining high strength and that’s exactly what makes this DeWalt box level unique. According to DeWalt, this new box level is said to be 35% lighter than their DeWalt aluminum box beam levels while retaining high impact resistance. We’re talking about the ability to withstand drops and flex a bit while absorbing shock. The flex is said to bounce back to shape giving this improved drop resistance over aluminum levels that get warped and bent out of shape after serious drops. Another feature is their slim end caps which allow you the ability to use the level as a straight edge for tracing straight lines all the way up to the end caps. Other features include durable box acrylic vials with a claimed accuracy of 0.0005”/inch and wall hanging hook.
No word on pricing but expect these out soon. For more info check out www.dewalt.com
