Makita X2 18V/36V brushless upright dry vacuum XCV19
All three new cordless tools mentioned in this article use Makita 18V batteries however this vacuum is an X2 power tool meaning it used two 18V batteries together to pump out 36 volt power and performance. Paired with its brushless motor this vacuum is rated for 67 CFM on high and has a rated runtime of up to 60 minutes in medium and up to 30 minutes on high when using a pair of 6.0 ah batteries according to Makita. According to Makita it carries the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) Seal of Approval Certification for high performance in commercial cleaning applications. Its HEPA filter captures 99.97% of particulates .3 microns and larger according to Makita. They also put an emphasis on loudness or quietness and made it 57dB(A) on low setting and 67dB(A) on high although they didn’t mention at what distance these decibel levels are. We know that the further you are from a noise, the quieter it seems. This should be very quiet for a vacuum. Of course with it being an upright model designed for vacuuming carpets and rugs it’s only a dry vacuum so don’t expect to use it to suck up wet messes as it’s not designed for that. You can buy it as a baretool XCV19Z or as a kit XCV19PG with a pair of 6.0 ah batteries which is nice to see Makita using their higher capacity batteries bundled in a kit.
Makita 18V brushless cut out tool AWS Capable XOC02Z
The XOC02Z represents Makita’s 18V cordless brushless cut out tool. Makita claims it can cut through two sheets of 1/2″ drywall. What’s also interesting is that it’s AWS capable. AWS is Makita’s own “auto wireless start” system to wirelessly start their own AWS equipped vacuums via the tool. Of course the tool has to have AWS as well for the system to work together and this tool has it. Well sort of, it’s mentioned as being AWS capable however it’s not ready out of the box as you still need to buy the optional AWS adapter to get AWS running on this tool.
Makita 18V DWD181 wall/floor scanner
This is a wall and floor scanner designed for scanning concrete, block, drywall, and wood and according to Makita this scanner is capable of detecting a variety of embedded objects including metals, wood, plastic, and shielded electrical wire up to 7” deep. This is helpful to locate objects behind walls or floors to know if you should cut or avoid that area. According to Makita has a detection accuracy of +/- 3/16.
The user interface displays center, edge position, and relative width and depth of embedded objects. The Multi-Detection Mode allows for scanning in up to three parallel surface positions, ideal for detecting objects running diagonally or detection affirmation.
The laser guide allows for straight travel across the scanned surface and a vertical center position for increased accuracy. The scanner also features a large 4” illuminated color display for improved clarity and L.E.D. light.
The DWD181 is durable, with a rubberized over-mold for increased durability. It is dust and water-resistant with an IP54-rating. It also features Makita’s exclusive Extreme Protection Technology (XPT) for improved dust and water resistance in harsh conditions.
According to Makita the runtime is said to be up to 9 hours with a 2.0 ah battery and up to 28 hours with a 6.0 ah battery. You can this wall scanner as a baretool DWD181ZJ with interlocking case shown above and as a kit DWD181R1J with 2.0 ah battery and charger and interlocking case.
