To clear the lathe bed, the operator slides the tailstock onto the swing-away and locks it down. With the tailstock secured on the swing away, the operator loosens a knob and lowers the tailstock out of the way. The tailstock can be easily replaced by swinging it back to position on the bed and tightening the knob. The Powermatic 4224B Tailstock Swing Away weighs 18 lbs. and does not interfere with a bed extension mounted in the lower position.
