Last year Ridgid introduced their GenX5 18V gear and included a powerful brushed hammer drill, then later towards the end of the year they released a brushless GenX5 18V compact hammer drill. Now halfway through 2016 and Ridgid releases another GenX5 drill the Ridgid GenX5 Compact Brushless Drill R86009K. It shares many similarities to the previous GenX5 18V brushless R86116K model that has 700 in-lbs torque but with 50 in-lbs less torque at 650 in-lbs torque and skips the hammer drill feature making this a drill driver only. The new R86009K drill also includes a side handle like the previous compact brushless model. Other than the minor discount in torque, these two brushless models are very similar with the same 2 speed drivetrain with a max 2100 rpm top speed and the micro adjustment torque clutch that made it’s debut on the original GenX5 brushed hammer drill.
This new Ridgid GenX5 Compact Brushless Drill R86009K will be sold as a kit with charger, bag, and two 1.5ah compact lithium ion batteries. This new model is currently priced at $159.00 at the Home Depot website while the slightly higher spec’d brushless hammer drill comes with two 2.0ah batteries for $179.00.
