A company called Rapidrill has a couple neat mobile drill press attachments that are designed for use with corded and cordless drills to make drilling through thick metal much faster than by hand alone without an accessory. The two models include a light duty Rapidrill Slim, and heavy duty Rapidrill Pro. The heavy duty model is designed mainly for drilling through thick steel, and the light duty model which is designed for lighter metal drilling and wood drilling.
My thoughts: If you’ve ever used a drill press for drilling steel, you know that it’s far easier and faster than by hand, so you can imagine why the Rapidrill could be such an effective tool for users drilling lots of holes in thick metal away from a shop and without the hassle and time consumption of setting up a magdrill. For both the heavy duty Rapidrill Pro and the light duty Rapidrill Slim, features include a self stabilizing tip for use on pipe, a C shape design to allow maximum reach on I beam and C channel steel, and a gear reduction design that allows the user to apply much more pressure than by hand. Overall I really like this design and it should provide a very effective solution for iron workers and general fabricators alike. One other thing I really like, this is 100% made in the USA, which is always great to see.
