Original Article Below:
Over on the Chinese website Taobao a new Ridgid 18V Octane Brushless SDS Plus Rotary Hammer has been spotted. We wrote about it on August 2017 when the first mock up picture was spotted however this time around we have a couple of actual pictures of the real thing to go by. The new design is considerably different than the original mock up picture which you can view by clicking here. The overall shape is there as there is little to differentiate rotary hammer designs however there are many cosmetic differences in the details and design cues.
No specs are listed and Ridgid has not announced a release date yet, so pretty much all we know is that this unit is one of the new Octane tools meaning that this tool will communicate with the Hyper Octane batteries for better performance while still being backwards compatible with their current 18V batteries. We can also see that it features Ridgid’s Hex Grip micro texture overmold and their Grip Light trigger that sits below the main trigger and turns on the LED light on the front of the tool allowing it to be used as a temporary flashlight or line up drilling marks without rotating the bit. Not surprisingly this unit looks very similar to the AEG Fusion SDS plus rotary hammer BBH18BL-0 with the exception being that the AEG model has a rafter hook and less overmold around the trigger area. I did reach out to Ridgid but all they could tell me at the time of writing is that it should be available hopefully in the first half of 2019
