Ridgid NXT 6 and 9 Gallon Wet Dry Vacs get Redesigned

Ridgid’s 6 gallon and 9 gallon wet dry vacs get a fresh modern redesign and also get a new NXT name to go alone with the refresh.

Besides the slick new redesign, according to Ridgid they’ve update several areas of both 6 and 9 gallon models with:

1. New ergonomic top carry handle
2. integrated cord wrap
3. larger power switch
4. dual locking flex hose
5. drum keying
6. comfort grip carry handles
7. upgraded latches
8. redesigned scroll

COMFORT GRIP CARRY HANDLES
Embedded on the drums are new Comfort Grip Carry Handles;
wide slits on the drum that make it more comfortable to carry
and easier to lift and empty the contents, even without the lid
attached. Previous 6 and 9 gallon drums were more awkward
to carry without lid.

 

REDESIGNED LATCHES
Upgraded latches tightly seal the lid to the drum to avoid
suction loss and improve convenience when carrying the vac
or dumping debris. They are much easier to attach and detach
from the lid, and are more secure when carrying the vac by the
top carry handle.

 

DRUM KEYING
This feature ensures that both lid and drum attach correctly
each time which creates a better seal, optimizing the vac’s
airfow. The seal is tighter because the lid and drum now ft
closer together.

 

TUG-A-LONG LOCKING HOSE WITH DUAL-FLEXTM
We’ve added Dual-Flex to our 1-7/8″ diameter hoses which
adds more fexibility at both ends of the hose. You can now
bend the hose up to 180 degrees at each end without it
crimping or collapsing.

 

CORD WRAP
A built-in Cord Wrap allows you to store the power cord
around the top carry handle. Previous models did not feature
cord storage.

 

ERGONOMIC TOP CARRY HANDLE
The Top Carry Handle has been reoriented from “side-to-side”
to “front-to-back”. This allows your arm to take a more natural
position when carrying the vac, resulting in a more comfortable
experience.

 

LARGE POWER SWITCH
We’ve given all our vacs a larger orange power switch on the
front of the vac so it’s easier to power on and off, even with
work gloves.

 

REDESIGNED SCROLL
Updated Scroll Technology gives an increase in power, suction,
and lift across all NXT wet/dry vacuums.

I wouldn’t call it a major update but a mild one with several features that will make using these wet dry vacs easier to use in terms of updated ergos for all three carry handles, a cord wrap is always welcome as no more need to fiddle with them by tying them or looping them externally, and one not mentioned above is that they are said to offer better drum to lid seals.

Basically the above are the only updates as the specs list is the same as they offer the same length hose and cord and also both offer the same HP as the models they replace which are a 3.5 HP motor for the 6 gallon model and a 4.25 HP motor for the 9 gallon model. Although they offer the same HP motors as outgoing models, it’s interesting to see that they claim to have better performance by their redesigned scrolls and drum keying which is said to provide better airflow and increase power, suction and  lift. I wonder how much of a performance boost they will get and if it will be noticeable.

Both new models also offer all the same features and accessories included from their previous model such as blower ports, rotating castors, on board storage above each caster for up to 4 accessories, 7 foot long 1-7/8″ locking hose, two extension wands, pleated filter, and utility nozzle. 9 gallon models also include a wet nozzle accessory.

Price on both new models is identical to the models they replace at $49.97 for 6 gallon model and $59.97 for 9 gallon model.
