Ryobi 18V One+ Hammer Drill P1812

large_5ea0e941-36c7-4eaf-856e-53345e886374Last year we seen a large addition of new green tools to the Ryobi lineup. Many in their 18V One+ line with major improvements in performance. That same tradition continues this year with the addition of the new 18V One+ Hammer Drill P1812. There have been Ryobi several 18V hammer drill models in the past but what stands out this time around is serious performance with 600 in-lbs max torque. This is more torque than tradition pro compact drills which range between 350-530 in-lbs torque and is much closer to the performance seen on high performance heavy duty drills. A side handle is included so you don’t snap your wrists off.

All without laying a finger on the torque clutch collar. Normally I’ve only seen this on pro cordless hammer drills and it’s nice to see this premium feature on a Ryobi tool. This along with an all metal ratcheting chuck. Yet another large_1156896d-629f-434b-8794-e4def9cc05defeature I’ve mostly seen on pro grade drills. The usual Ryobi features are included such as the magnetic (MagTray) for holding screws and such and bit holder. If you’re familiar with their blue drills you might miss the bubble levels but in modern times those seem to have become extinct. They also moved the LED light from just below the chuck to the bottom of the handle above the battery compartment. If you ask me it seems that Ryobi is trying to shake things around in the power tool world.

Great write up Javier, I totally agree that Ryobi may be a cheap brand but they have certainly upped their game in the last couple of years or so. I own a cordless nailer of theirs and a 40v blower and the build quality and performance are on a par with the big boys for a fraction of the cost. This drill is another tool that bucks the cheap price cheap tool rule, the metal chuck and mode selector are great features on a budget drill. I think there will be more green in my future!
