I just found out that Ryobi makes a 40V brushless 9″ edger. It’s not exactly a new product as it’s been out since early 2022. A big thanks to DrewBHAM for helping me find this.

Ryobi 40V Brushless 9″ Edger – Cordless
It may not be new but it doesn’t appear to have much coverage. Outdoor power equipment have historically been gas only with some plug in electric options. Battery powered options have been available in modern years.
Ryobi also had an edger attachment as part of their Expand-It line of accessories but this here is a true standalone cordless battery powered option. This means no gasoline and mixing oil, nor hassle of pull starts, or cords to fuss with. Just pop a fresh battery in and push to start. Also being a standalone tool means you wont have to assemble and disassemble it.
Ryobi 40V Brushless 9″ Edger – Features
The handle allows for easy push button starting. It also allows the handle to be rotated as well. It is powered by a brushless motor that runs a 9 inch edger blade. The handle provides variable speed control. The top of the tool has a covered battery compartment.
It has 3 wheels to run the tool. And as shown above, the blade guard has a blade guide line and arrow to help you align the cut as you go. It has a 4 position single point depth adjustment from 1/2″ to 2 inches.
The left rear wheel has an added bonus of moving downwards as shown above. This helps when edging along a curb for better stability. Very cool feature to make life easier so you don’t have to balance the tool in this situation where one wheel wouldn’t make contact with the floor.
The inside of the edger guard will get full of dirt so Ryobi integrated a debris cleaner. It rotates to scrap away lodged dirt and mud.
While a string trimmer can do what an edger does, an edger with its built in wheels and purpose built blade makes the job easier. It can also cut into dirt faster and easier.
This Ryobi edger is available at the time of writing for $449 as a kit with 4ah battery and quick charger. A baretool is available as well for $319.
