Ryobi 40V HP Brushless Stick Edger
We just learned recently that Ryobi had a 40V brushless edger since back in 2022. And now they have another 40V model. This new model appears to be a simpler design over last years model. And has a lower price to reflect its toned down design.
Ryobi 40V HP Brushless Stick Edger – Features
Whereas the previous model had a 3 wheeled design, this new model only features one 5″ rear wheel. This means you lose some of the stability of the three wheel design of the previous model. And you’ll need to balance the edger as you operate so the front motor doesn’t scrape onto the driveway or sidewalk.
The brushless motor powers an 8 inch edging blade. Ryobi claims this battery powered edger has increased torque similar to gas performance.
It features a spindle lock for convenient blade changes. Depth of cutting adjustment ranges from 0.5″-2.25″ with a single point height adjustment. There’s also a blade indicator marker to help you align the cut path.
It features a variable speed trigger paired with a 2 speed switch. Two speeds allows the user to choose between full power or less power to for longer runtime.
A front handle is included for easier handling. Honestly the design reminds me a lot of the design of a string trimmer. The layout is the same but with the addition of a rear wheel and guard, blade, and blade mount specific to an edger.
In fact, many people use string trimmers to edge their lawns, even the pro’s do this as it’s convenient. However an actual edger is better suited for this job as it can cut quickly and also cut through dense grass and even cut into dirt itself easily and quickly.
The Kit includes a 4ah battery and fast charger. The included fast charger can charge the 4ah battery in about 60 minutes.
PRICING & AVAILABILITY
This stick edger will be priced at $359 as a kit with 4ah battery and fast charger. It will also be available as a baretool. However no price point was mentioned for the tool by itself. No specific launch date is mentioned however Ryobi says we can expect it during Spring 2023.
