Ryobi 18V Framing Nailer Models
As was mentioned at the outset, Ryobi came out with not one but two cordless nailers. A 21 and 30 degree model. The degree has to do with the angle of the magazine and how severe you can angle nail fires.
Ryobi 18V Framing Nailer Models Common Features
Other than the difference in magazine angle, both nailers share the same features. Both are cordless and run on 18V battery power and feature powerful brushless motors. This means no compressor or hose, or gas cartridges to operate. Everything needed to run the nailer is onboard.
They both feature the ability to fire single shot per trigger press or bump fire. There’s a switch for either mode near the handle as shown above.
A built in rafter hook allows you to hang on things like exposed framing. Both also come with belt clips to carry with you which comes in handy as you climb a ladder. Depth of drive control is tool free. Although Ryobi didn’t mention if it’s tool free to remove nail jams. TTI products from Ridgid and Milwaukee usually state tool-free nail jam removal. So I find it strange that this is not mentioned on these Ryobi’s. The technology Ryobi uses to drive nails is not discussed but they do call it Air-Strike.
Ryobi says there is onboard shock absorbers to help keep the battery safe from vibrations. And both offer an on-board air fill valve which they say is for field serviceability and to reduce downtime. Both models can run up to 3-1/2″ round head nails while the 30 degree model can also utilize clipped head nails.
Ryobi 18V Framing Nailer Performance
I saw a few video clips from their press release on both of these. While most videos are silent, (not sure why) there were a few that had sound. The videos of the 21 degree showed that there was some noise coming from the nailer. It was quick but there was a bit of noise as it prepared each nail fire. The videos of the 30 degree nailer were shot indoors with lots of echo. Firing sounded instant, however the echo caused only the sound of the fire to be heard. As it drowned out the sound of the nailer motor. I was able to find a video of the 30 degree with the motor firing noise so it is there on this model as well.
Firing performance also appeared strong with both models. The videos weren’t high res nor did any show up close footage of the nail heads. The closest video of the nail head showed that it was a little bit proud. Picture of clip shown above and doesn’t help the nail is at an angle. Nothing I would feel the need to tap with a hammer.
Both models are said to have the power to sink up to 3-1/2 inch full round head nails. Ryobi says they offer equal performance to traditional pneumatic framing nailers.
Ryobi 18V Framing Nailer Runtime
Both models are said to be able to run up to 750 nails per charge with a 4ah high performance battery.
Ryobi 18V Framing Nailer Availability & Pricing
Both models will be offered as baretools at $329 each. Regarding availability, they didn’t give us an exact date other than to expect them in 2023.
