Ryobi has a very appealing line of 18V cordless nailers called Airstrike and they just announced another one, this time a 23 gauge pin nailer model P318.
Why you should get it? Pin nailers use very small nails called pins that leave a smaller hole than finish nails. A smaller hole is less visible and requires less patching and makes it better suited for delicate facework.
The new Ryobi P318 18V Airstrike 23 Gauge Pin Nailer also looks to be the smallest Ryobi Airstrike cordless nailer, even smaller than their puny 18ga nail gun. It also weight 3.85 lbs although I’m not sure if that’s with or without the battery, probably without a battery.
It has all the usual features you’d come to expect from the other Ryobi Airstrike nailers such as a built in LED light, their gripzone overmold texture, single fire and bump fire modes, dry fire lockout, and belt clip. Although there are a couple of changes I noticed with the new pin nailer model that deviate from previous Airstrike models. First of all they removed the single and bump fire mode selector that used to be below the handle above the battery holder and now moved it to a separate paddle type switch underneath the trigger. I’m guessing this is so that you can switch between modes and operate the tool one handed.
The next change I noticed is that they removed the grip light button on the handle. This button would illuminate the light as soon as you picked up the tool upon gripping it. It’s now been removed but I’m sure the light still works when you press the trigger.
Runtime is impressive for a brushed motor tool at up to 3800 nails per charge with the P108 battery.
I’ve heard that we can expect the new Ryobi P318 18V Airstrike 23 Gauge Pin Nailer in August 2017 and will be around $99, probably as a bare tool.

Once again I said last week that I wished makita wasnt the only cordless pin nailer, and wondered why ryobi, with all of their cordless nailer success, didnt make a pin nailer. Sure enough here it is right after I ask for one. Maybe I should wish for a few more tools as I seem to be on a roll at the moment. Thanks for posting Javier.
I will say that Im not a fan of the removal of the separate led activation button or the switch under the trigger. The mode switch looks like it would be easy to bump accidentally whereas the brad nailer selector switch has to be an intentional action. Either way the pin nailer will be a welcome addition to my toolbox. Maybe I should wish for that framing nailer now…..
I really wish they would come out with a canister vacuum again.
Yeah weird they removed the grip light button, I wonder why?
As for the mode switch below the trigger, it might be cumbersome but my Makita 18V brushless drywall screw gun has a similar paddle type switch below the trigger to change forward or reverse and after you get used to it, it doesn’t get in the way
Looks like it has a clamp to stabilize the workpiece also. I am a Ryobi fan and I glad to see them not just following along but adding great features. Can’t wait to try
That is an adjustable edge guide for keeping the line of pins straight. Perfect for what use a nailer for.
I was looking to buy the Makita CXT 12v pin nailer when its available but I will guy this instead. Ryobi nailers are proven thing.
Ryobi are killing it at the moment.
Yes they are, I was debating getting their lawnmower, I was planning on get the 18v lawnmower but I saw that one model caused the battery to overheat, the 40v is priced just right but it came down to other tools.
I am leaning towards Ego because it has more juice and mainly because of the snowblower. For the winter I will need something that can power through the snow. I hope Ego comes out with a 3in1 cordless blower, vac, mulcher. So far the only one I’ve seen is from greenworks
Does this work with my exsisting 18v battery?
if it’s Ryobi 18v then yes
Does this work with my current 18v battery?
