2 New Makita 18V Rivet Tools 3/16″ XVR01 & 1/4″ XVR02 Cordless Rivet Guns

Makita has just announced two new 18V rivet guns with the XVR01 18V LXT (3/16″ Maximum) Brushless Rivet Tool and the XVR02 18V LXT (1/4″ Maximum) Brushless Rivet Tool.

This is great news for anyone that joins sheet metal with rivets and is looking for a cordless solution. Makita may not be the first to make a cordless rivet gun but those on the Makita 18V LXT system will certainly appreciate. Both Makita rivet guns or rivet tools as they call them are very similar in design. The biggest difference is the rivet pulling force and max capacity. The XVR01 rivet gun delivers 10 kN (kilo Newtons) of pulling force for up to 3/16″ (4.8mm) rivets while the XVR02 rivet gun delivers 20 kN (kilo Newtons) of pulling force for up to 1/4″ (6.4mm) rivets.

They both offer rear canisters that hold the excess pins after use for easy disposal when done. The design of both rivet guns is very basic with no flashy design cues normally found on Makita tools and the aesthetics is rather bland. I’m sure this is due to their industrial design nature. They also have an “industrial” price point as well as they start at just under $1600 baretool for the XVR01 model and go as high as just under $1900 for the XVR02 in kit form.
