Makita has announced 2 New Makita X2 36V 10″ Pole Saws with the XAU01 & XAU02 models.

Both of these new cordless pole saws offer 36 volt power using a pair of 18V batteries that power the brushless motor and 10″ bar and chain. They are also said to offer performance similar to to 30cc Gas Pole Saws. They feature brushless motors and are powered by two LXT 18V Makita batteries to pump out 36 volts. Both pole saws are said to get up to 140 cuts into 4×4 cedar with a pair of 5.0 ah batteries. “Other features include a branch hook to pull trimmed branches from trees, lateral chain tensioning with single stud for efficient chain retention, captured bar nut, soft front grip, and a translucent bar oil tank with large opening for easy refilling.”
The difference between the two is that the XAU01 has a fixed 8 foot shaft while the XAU02 has a telescoping shaft that can adjust from 9 to 13 feet.
