2 New Ryobi 40V Smart TREK Brushless Self Propelled Mowers 20″ RY40LM30 & 21″ RY40LM10-Y

Ryobi introduces two new cordless 40v brushless self propelled mower under the Smart TREK model family with a 20″ RY40LM30 model and a 21″ RY40LM10-Y model. A brushless motor on both means that you’ll get plenty of performance and better runtime than brushed motors and the self propelled feature means less strain and fatigue when mowing since both can “push” themselves.

Ryobi 40V Smart TREK Brushless Self Propelled 20″ Mower RY40LM30

The smaller of the two models, the Ryobi 40V Smart TREK Brushless Self Propelled 20″ Mower RY40LM30 features a 20 inch plastic deck and single LED headlight for evening or early morning mowing. It has all the usual battery mower amenities such as easy push button starting, folding and telescoping handles and large wheels. It can bag or mulch out of the box. It can also do side discharge but you need to buy the optional accessory to do so. It’s powered by a single 40V battery and has a dual battery compartment that holds a second battery. A second battery doesn’t actually plug into the machine but instead acts more as storage for the second battery to make easy battery swaps on the spot. Runtime is mentioned to be up to 40 minutes and each battery charges in 4 hours using the supplied charger. A single 6.0 ah battery and charger are included in the kit and is priced at $449.

  • SMART TREK technology adapts to walking speed
  • Rear-wheel drive for increased traction
  • Brushless motor for maximum power and run time
  • 6 Ah battery for extended run time
  • Hassle free push button start
  • Easy lift bag removal
  • Lightweight and compact storage
  • 7-position single-point height adjustment (1-1/2 in. to 4 in.)
  • High intensity LED headlights
  • 2-in-1 mulching and bagging capable (side discharge accessory sold separately)

Ryobi 40V Smart TREK Brushless Self Propelled 21″ Mower RY40LM10-Y

The larger of the two models, the Ryobi 40V Smart TREK Brushless Self Propelled 21″ Mower RY40LM10-Y features an upgraded 21 inch steel deck and upgraded multi LED headlight for evening or early morning mowing. The motor and battery housing is designed to look more like a gas engine mower and I think it mimmicks the look well with a high tech looking twist and sort of reminds me of a motorcycle helmet. It has all the usual battery mower amenities such as easy push button starting, folding and telescoping handles and large wheels. It can bag or mulch out of the box. It can also do side discharge but you need to buy the optional accessory to do so. What’s also interesting is that they redesigned the handle side rails to make it easy to pick up the bag as all you have to do is lift it up and away. It’s powered by a single 40V battery and has a dual battery compartment that holds a second battery. A second battery doesn’t actually plug into the machine but instead acts more as storage for the second battery to make easy battery swaps on the spot. Runtime is mentioned to be up to 35 minutes and each battery charges in 4 hours using the supplied charger. A single 6.0 ah battery and charger are included in the kit and is priced at $599.

  • SMART TREK technology adapts to the users walking speed for ease of use
  • Rear-wheel drive for increased traction
  • Brushless motor for maximum power and run time
  • 6 Ah battery for extended run time
  • Push button for hassle free starting
  • Easy-Lift Single-Motion lock and release bagger for easy debris removal
  • Step-to-Release folding collapsible handles for compact storage

Ryobi REALLY needs to redesign the charger for the 40 volt system. 35 minutes run time and 4 hours to charge?!? …Ridiculous

    • Javier says:

Agree. 4 hours is too long for their price points, you can get similarly equipped Ego and Echo models that charge their batteries in an hour.

      • Tom says:

Agreed. Ego can actually charge a 56V 7.5Ah battery in 30 minutes with runtime 60 mins. It’s incredible. I would like to see Ryobi step up the battery/charger in some way on the $599 model.

        • Javier says:

Actually an Ego 7.5 ah battery takes 60 minutes to charge with their rapid charger which is still very impressive considering that battery is 420 watt hours.

          Industry’s fastest charger
All charge times are approximate and from zero to full charge as follows:
          2.0 Ah Battery: 25-minutes
          2.5Ah & 4.0 Ah Battery: 30-minutes
          5.0 Ah Battery: 40-minutes
          7.5 Ah Battery: 60-minutes

The 21″ has a steel deck, not plastic.
