Makita DCM501Z 18V LXT / 12V CXT Cordless Coffee Maker

Remember those spiffy new CM501DZ & CM501DZAR Makita 18V coffee makers spotted here last year that came in blue and red? Those were spotted outside the USA and I always wondered if they’d show up here in the states. Luckily for us they’re available here in the USA or atleast one of them with a model number DCM501Z known as the Makita 18V LXT / 12V CXT Cordless Coffee Maker.

The DCM501Z only comes in blue, at least at the time of writing it does, and this is an upgraded version of the Makita DMC500Z that’s been around for years. Upgrades include faster 5 minute versus 7 minutes brewing speed of a 5 oz cup of coffee, built in battery holder which means no need of a tethered power source, the ability to run on 18 volt LXT and 12V CXT batteries although brewing speed will be slower with 12V batteries, and a more upscale design than before. A couple of downsides are that the new model is priced considerably higher at $99 baretool and it can no longer be plugged into an AC outlet which also lead to faster brewing times on the original model. While the price is much higher, they atleast do provide you with a Makita branded stainless steel mug with lid. Sure stainless steel cups can be had for cheap, but at least they toss one in.

What’s interesting to note on the new model is that it has two different battery slots, one for 18V and one for 12V and there’s a sliding door that exposes one and covers the other. Runtime is the same as the original with two 5 oz cups with a 3.0ah battery and up to three 5 oz cups with a 5.0ah battery. These are available now in select retailers while other retailers should have them out soon.

I bought one of these last year and am very happy with it. So much so that it now lives in the kitchen. I timed it using a CXT battery and it took 6 mins 8 seconds for a 170ml cup.

Also the stainless mug is double walled and extras can be bought separately.
Part numbers for the mug and cap are, Cup: KF00000020
    Lid: KF00000021
