Ryobi has a new battery powered (cordless) mower with the Ryobi RY401100 40V 2 in 1 18″ Push Mower.
Being on their 40V platform, you can expect more power than 18 volt mowers and it has an 18 inch deck. Don’t expect the latest and greatest or bells and whistles on this model as it looks to be designed to hit a low price point rather than to pack in feature comforts. For example, it’s priced at $249 as a kit with a 40V 4.0 ah battery and charger. The price makes it very affordable and has everything you need to cut right away. Since it’s battery powered, you won’t need to worry about messing with gasoline, mixing oil, yanking your arm off to start the machine as a push button start makes life easy.
Ryobi markets this as a 2 in 1 mower. That means it can cut grass and either side discharge or mulch. No bag is included for those of you that would rather bag. Even if you could add a bag later, which you can’t by the way because it’s not designed to accept one at all. It also doesn’t have a brushless motor for added runtime or performance and no LED light’s for evening or early morning cutting. But it does have the basics like adjustable cutting height adjustments, all terrain wheels and folding handle bars for easy storage. No runtime figures were provided however they do mention that it takes about 2.5 hours to charge the battery.
Ryobi also offers the same model in a kit with charger and two 4.0 ah battery packs for $379.
