Makita has introduced 4 new cordless X2 (36V) outdoor power equipment this month with a two new string trimmers, a new lawn mower and a new brush cutter.
Probably the biggest news here is the introduction of the 36V Brushless String Trimmer, Connector Cable Tool Only CRU03Z model which is the first of a new series called the “Connector Series”. It’s basically a brushless X2 string trimmer however it doesn’t have any battery compartments but instead accepts a direct connection to the Makita PDC01 LXT 18V & X2 36V Portable Backpack Power Supply. This lends to a lighter tool since two batteries are not present on the tool to weigh it down, instead are on the backpack power supply. It has a large cutting swath of 17″ and uses dual line of 0.080″. Not sure why they go with the smaller line instead of the thicker 0.095″ line. It has a solid metal shaft with with motor behind the handles and gearbox on the head. Has three selectable electronic speeds and reverse function to unwind tangles.
They also introduced a new cordless X2 mower with the Makita XML05 X2 18″ brushless lawn mower. Featuring a plastic 18″ deck with 17″ cutting width, this model is said to be “ideal” for detailed landscaping. The XML05 is powered by two 18V LXT Batteries and has a Makita-built motor that delivers up to 3,600 RPM. It’s a 2 in 1 mower with a bag for either mulching or bagging clipped grass. Comes with a covered battery compartment and no LED headlights so you can’t operate when dark.
A cordless brush cutter was also announced with the Makita 18V X2 (36V) LXT Cordless Brush Cutter XRU16. Like the rest of the tools in this article, it operates on two 18V batteries for 36 volt power. Very much designed like a string trimmer but instead of using line to cut, it uses a 9″ steel star blade. It also has double bar bike-handle design that makes it easy to operate with the use of the included harness. Much like the new connected series string trimmer, it too has 3 speeds with reverse mode. It’s said to have the performance similar to a 30cc gas brush cutter.
Last but not least is the Makita 18V X2 (36V) LXT Brushless Cordless String Trimmer XRU17. This model is said to have the power needed for commercial applications. Much like the new connected series string trimmer, it too has 3 speeds with reverse mode and a large 17″ cutting swath using dual line. It’s said to have the performance similar to a 30cc gas string trimmer.
