Worx 20V Power Share Brushless 1/2″ Drill / Driver WX102L

Worx has announced a new Power Share 20V brushless 1/2″ drill driver model WX102L .

This isn’t Worx first brushless drill / driver but this latest model does bring up the brand with notable features like a strong brushless motor that puts out a claimed 531 in-lbs of torque making it a serious contender in the compact drill segment. It certainly looks very compact although no front to back length numbers are presented it does look very compact and with 531 in-lbs of torque makes it significantly stronger than typical 18V sub compacts that range in the 350-400 in-lbs range. Worx says this drill is part of their Worx Nitro line of professional-grade power tools. Whether this new Worx tool falls into the pro grade segment is up for question however they do mention it to have some upgraded features like a ratcheting metal 1/2″ chuck which certainly gives it credibility and also says it has all metal gears. One thing that makes a drill more durable is a metal gearbox however that is not mentioned in their documentation, press release, or features and the omission makes me believe the gearbox case is most likely plastic like what you’ll find on any DIY grade drill. Still though a 1/2″ metal ratcheting chuck paired with 531 in-lbs of torque make it a very nice featured compact drill none the less.

Other features include an LED light below the handle and belt clip. It’s two speed gearbox allows it to drill from 0-600 & 0-2000 RPM’s and it weighs in at 3.4 lbs according to Worx. They say it’s rated drilling capacity in wood is 1-1/2″ and 1/2″ in steel.

In typical Worx fashion, it’s also priced relatively low at $99.99 as a kit with a 2.0ah compact battery and charger that will charge the included battery in about an hour. That makes it’s bundled charger slower than pro brands like Dewalt, Bosch, and Milwaukee’s stock chargers.

Here’s the breakdown on the WX102L Nitro Drill:

1. Gears and Gear Box – All metal
2. Gear Case/Housing –  PA66-GF30. 30% Glass filled nylon for strength, rigidity and high heat tolerance
3. Motor bearings – Metal

They confirm that the gears and gear box are all metal which is great. As far as the gearbox housing is concerned, it is a glass filled nylon (plastic) so the exterior portion that is painted to look metalic, is plastic. Not much difference in the exterior from lets say an entry level drill from something like Ryobi for example. But the good news is that internally the gears and box are robust metal components.
