Milwaukee has announced a new updated model of their corded 1-9/16″ SDS Max Rotary hammer model 5517-21. Let’s check it out below.

Milwaukee 1-9/16″ SDS MAX Rotary Hammer 5517-21 – Features
This new model is an update of the 5317-21 model which was also a corded 1-9/16″ SDS Max rotary hammer. The exterior goes through some changes as it looks like a brand new model but there’s plenty of changes under the hood as well. One of those changes can be seen outside with vibration dampening on the upper part of the main handle as part of their AVS system.
Internally, it gets a more powerful 14 amp motor which delivers more oomph at 5.9 ft-lbs of impact force. This is up from 10amp 5.5 ft-lbs of the previous corded model. This new model also gets a boost of 488 BPM (beats per minute) and 3,300 RPM which bests the previous models 450 and 3,000 stats respectively.
This new model also mentions 12 position chisel adjustment, however the previous model didn’t mention how many position adjustments.
Similar features include 2 operating modes of rotary+hammer and hammer only modes. You’ll also find a soft start and a mechanical clutch to stall the tool in case the bit binds with something like rebar. This safety feature will help reduce the risk of harm to you or the tool in case the bit binds.
This new model also features an LED light for increased visibility in low light.
