Amazon Purchases PillPack Online Pharmacy Service – Amazon Enters The Health Sector

Online retail giant Amazon is now entering the Health Care Sector as they agreed to purchase PillPack for $1 Billion. PillPack is a full-service pharmacy that sorts your medication by the dose and delivers to your door.

PillPack tweeted on Twitter:

We’re thrilled to share that @amazon has agreed to acquire PillPack. Together, we will continue making it easy for customers to save time, simplify their lives, and feel healthier. We’re excited for our future together.

What the Amazon PillPack purchase means for us:

Expect to soon be able to fill your prescriptions online through the Amazon.com website on top of being able to purchase just about everything else through the retail giant. We can expect lower prices on prescriptions, expect a lot of volume, however maybe not all the choices we want.

Here are some of the services PillPack already offers that we can expect Amazon to soon offer from the buyout:

  • Sorted & Delivered
  • Your medication, packaged by the dose and shipped directly to your door, every month.
  • Pharmacy Items
  • We also provide items like creams, inhalers, and testing supplies — when you need them.
  • Automatic Refills
  • We monitor and manage your refills directly with your doctors.
  • 24/7 Support
  • Have a question? Our team is available 24/7 via phone, text, e-mail, or live chat.
