Bosch has announced a new GWS18V-45C 18V EC Brushless 4-1/2 Inch Angle Grinder.
This is definitely a step up from their previous grinder as it features a brushless motor which will provide not only longer runtime but more power than brushed motor cordless grinders. It also helps push the wheel at up to 9,000 RPM no load speed which is 500 more RPM than Makita’s and Milwaukee’s brushless grinders. However more RPM doesn’t necessarily mean better performance as Makita’s and Milwaukee’s grinders claim corded grinder performance while the Bosch 18V brushless grinder does not make a similar claim. I do believe that it will be stronger than a brushed motor grinder though.
Besides the brushless motor, the Bosch GWS18V-45C 18V EC Brushless 4-1/2 Inch Angle Grinder also features some very advanced features. For example, even though it uses a slide lock power switch, the grinder can detect if it is dropped and automatically shut off the motor. It also has their anti kickback control which also shuts down the motor if the wheel binds to protect the user.
It also has the ability to have bluetooth connectivity that lets you customize the grinder, changing the speed of the soft-start function, setting the brightness of the LED and receiving battery charge and KickBack Control status updates. But in order to get these extra bluetooth features, you must purchase and install the separate Bosch GCY30-4 Bluetooth connectivity module.
Aside from the above advanced features, you also get a soft start, vibration control side handle, and the tool will not start up accidentally if the power switch is in the on position when you insert a battery. Lot’s of great advanced and safety features.
I like how the switch is on the left side which is good for when operating the grinder sideways and is within easy reach of your right thumb when operating in the normal position.
Pricing for the new grinder is $179 as a bare tool and will be available soon.
