Briggs And Stratton Snapper 60V Brushless Cordless OPE

snapper line tool crazeWe just started a new year and a new company has sprung up with new cordless outdoor power equipment. This new brand called Snapper has a new 60V line and all of their lawn equipment are powered by brushless motors. They’re starting with 5 lawn tools with a 21″ walk behind mower, 24″ hedge trimmer, 16″ chain saw, leaf blower, and 16″ string trimmer.

What’s interesting is that it appears Snapper is the name of the brand and they advertise their tools as being powered by Briggs And Stratton. The Briggs And Stratton logo appears on all of the lithium ion batteries used in the Snapper line. Snapper also makes the claim that these are the “industry’s first 60V battery system”. 60 volts is only a few volts more than similar 56V and 58V systems so I believe these will compete with similar voltage cordless lines from Worx, Ego, and Echo. In terms of pricing, they are competitively priced and look to compete directly against the Ego 56V line and the Worx 56V line.

All of the outdoor power tools in the line include 2.0ah lithium ion batteries except for the blower and mower. The blower comes with a 2.5ah battery and the mower includes a 4.0ah battery. I’m not sure when this new line hit the scene but they are all currently available for sale and can be found on the Walmart website.

    Great write up!

The Snapper tools look very similar to the 80v Greenworks tooks

That’s because it is a bogus (fake) number, they rounded it.

The closest you can get is 16 or 17 lithium-ion cells at 3.6/3.7 volts each for 57.6/59.2 or 61.2/62.9 volts. Or if it is lithium iron phosphate at 3.2 volts each the closest is 18 or 19 cells for 57.6/60.8 volts.

This seems to be a common practice for lithium tool battery advertising these days sadly. Truth in advertising is all but gone.

Until people start opening these batteries up and counting the cells we will never know its true nominal voltage.

The Snapper video shows 30 AA size cells in the battery pack. Not sure of the voltage on each cell.

  • Franky says:

3.6 And 3.7 are pretty much obsolete… most r now between 3.8 and 4.3 depending on chemical makeup… lithium ion or lithium polymer… but each has a minimum and maximum charge range which is why the word max is probably used. I repair and rebuild battery packs and these tools r no joke and shouldn’t be taken apart and messed w unless ur ready for a nasty shock or burn… the dry skin on ur hands will begin to conduct electricity at around 40v so 60v certainly has more potential for injury especially w sweaty or wet hands. ⚡ (50ma can stop ur heart!)⚡
