Dewalt has announced a new Dewalt POWERSTACK 5ah battery. It is a POWERSTACK battery but with a much larger capacity!

Powerstack batteries do not have traditional cylinder battery cells. Instead they use a stack of pouch cells. Pouch cells are similar to those found in your cell phone.

This compact battery has a larger capacity than the original. While the original Powerstack had 1.7 ah (amp hours) of capacity, this new Powerstack has 5 ah! That’s over double the capacity. Amp hours is a measurement of capacity not power output. The rear has a built in fuel gauge to show you remaining battery.
Dewalt claims the new Powerstack 5ah is the most powerful battery in its class. They say 50% more power than a regular 5ah battery, 50% more efficient than their other XR series batteries 5ah or lower. And 50% more efficient with 50% more the work per charge and twice the life span of a regular 5ah battery. They claim that it can get double the total recharges per lifetime compared to the regular 5ah.

The original Powerstack was known for its compact size. The image above shows the new 5ah (right) next to the original (left) for a size comparison. As you can see, the new 5ah POWERSTACK is considerably larger than the original. Both taller and longer. It makes sense as it’s over twice the capacity. Its larger size also makes it closer to the size of a regular 5ah battery.

It will be available December 2022 for around $229 at time of writing.
