DeWalt DCN701B 20v Max Cable Stapler

While I’m not an electrician, I’ve run a couple hundred feet of Romex wire when I wired up my shop for 120v and 240v, and one of the annoying parts is tacking up the wire with cable staples when I had to run 50’ lengths above 3 garage doors. DeWalt took notice of the demand for electricians that do lots of work with cable staples so they came out with the new DCN701B 20v Max Cable Stapler. DeWalt claims that this stapler is 2X faster than doing it by hand, which I can easily believe. It can be tricky to hold the wire in place while positioning the staple and tacking it in place, so being able to hold the wire in one hand tack it with the other will be a big time and hassle saver.

My thoughts: This unit will definitely make the lives of many electricians easier when running new wire as it should be very easy to position the wire and secure it with the other hand. I can say from experience that tacking wire overhead and behind a garage door mechanism is a bit of a pain, so being able to simply pull a trigger and be done is very appealing. My main concern is this might not fit in tight areas, but then again any space too tight for this stapler would be very tricky with a hammer to begin with. It features an LED light for working in low light, a built in wire guide and a belt hook that can be placed on either side for left and right handed users.

A big thanks goes to Cody Robertson for sending in word of this new product from DeWalt!

As an electrician, the proprietary staple is the only thing I see hindering this great idea of a tool, though I’ll likely buy one anyways lol

Yeah that will be annoying for some, but at the same time I wouldn’t be surprised if some off brand versions show up for cheaper. But for someone else ho does that type of wiring all day it’ll be a great option.
