I’ve built quite a tool collection and have even swapped most of my tools with cordless ones. The reason being that it’s much easier for me to setup when a tool is cordless as all I need is to pop a battery and I’m ready to go. Festool has noticed that more and more users are starting to prefer cordless options and have come up with new cordless 18V sanders.
The 3 new models are hybrid models which are designed for use with 18V batteries but can also be plugged in for extended runtime with the use of a specially designed adapter that goes into the battery slot. All 3 models share the 18V / hybrid corded feature and the main difference between each is the type of sander they are. They have a 5 inch round sander (not listed as a random orbit model although it may be), they have a rectangular finish sander, and a triangular detail sander.
What’s interesting is that the 18v batteries are a new shape of batteries, specifically designed for the new cordless Festool sanders. This means you won’t be able use the Festool 18V power tool batteries you may already have.
