Hercules 11 Amp Heavy Duty 4-1/2″ Angle Grinder – Harbor Freight’s New Grinder

Until now the latest edition to the Hercules line at Harbor Freight was the 15 amp dual bevel compound sliding miter saw, but that just changed with a new 11 amp 4 ½” angle grinder model HE61P.

My thoughts: as always it’s nice to see new products with excellent specs coming out at Harbor Freight. The high $89 pricing surprises me but that may be an error and if so I’ll update the article later. This grinder doesn’t have any stand out features but it’s exactly what you’d expect within the respective price range. With a paddle switch and tool free blade guard, this unit should be a good fit for extended use. Again as with many Harbor freight products the warranty leaves a lot to be desired, but if this turns out to be a good tool most users won’t need the warranty to begin with.

The thing is, I don’t buy into the “if good you won’t need the warranty” strategy. I prefer the “if good you also won’t need the longer warranty so it’s not much extra liability for them to offer it, so they do”. Extra cost warranty, maybe extending a 2 or 3 year to 5.
