Hikoki Multivolt Compact Magnetic Drill – What Is A Magnetic Drill?

A magnetic drill is a specialty portable drill for drilling into heavy gauge metal. The easiest way for me to describe it is, a drill press that attaches magnetically to the thing it’s drilling into. These are typically corded power tools however battery powered models have appeared in recent years such as this Hikoki model.

Hikoki Multivolt Compact Magnetic Drill – Features

Most magnetic drills are tall however this particular model is short with a height of 149mm. This translates to about 5.866 inches in height. This means that this magnetic drill can fit into tight places mag drill typically can’t.

In fact, Hikoki states that their compact mag drill can squeeze into a 200mm I-beam. It can drill holes up to 27mm in diameter.

Other features include a built in light and carry handle. The drilling handle can be placed on either left or right side. It “includes plate thickness, flotation and load detection function.” A “Pilot lamp will tell you the status of the state in five colors!”

This mag drill is cordless and runs on Hikoki 36V Multivolt batteries. If the battery sounds familiar, that’s because Multivolt batteries are Hitachi batteries. Hitachi tools have since changed their name as Hikoki overseas and Metabo HPT in the USA.
