Brushless 36V blowers are nothing new to Makita. Makita has produced several iterations of these with their X2 offerings that use a pair of LXT 18V batteries to push out 36 volts. This model though being 36V goes a slightly different route to feed it with power by having a direct cable connection and feeding off of Makita’s backpack power supply pack that can house up to four LXT 18V batteries. This technically makes this blower a corded tool since it uses one however it’s also a cordless tool because with the backpack power source you don’t need to run extension cords or plug into an outlet since the backpack power supply you wear feeds the blower. This has some advantages as not only does it make the blower lighter in your hand at only 5.7 lbs net weight since it is not carrying the weight of two batteries but it can also extend the runtime as well since you can suit up with up to 4 batteries for even more runtime than a similarly equipped X2 power tool with only 2 batteries. Just keep in mind that the only way to power this blower is through the backpack power supply unit as you won’t be able to plug batteries into the blower directly. So it only makes sense to buy this specific blower if you already own or intend to buy the backpack power source.
Makita has also made this bad boy very powerful with up to 622 CFM and 157 mph making it a very strong blower. Not only is it stronger than previous Makita 36V blowers but they even claim that “the blower delivers up to 80% more blowing force than a gas blower (when compared to Makita model BHX2500CA).”
As far as features go, it uses a brushless blower with variable speed trigger that allows 0-530 CFM and a turbo boost mode to deliver the full 622 CFM. Next to the trigger is an easy to reach cruise control lever so your trigger finger can take a rest while you operate the tool. The blower tip is in traditional Makita fashion as it uses a multiple piece construction tube that allows 3 different lengths and the tip has a downward end to reduce arm fatigue and better angle air direction.
It is available for sale now and is priced at $379.99 as a baretool at the time of writing.
